Mario Balotelli looks set to sign a new contract with Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice, according to French reports.
With his contract expiring at the end of the month, Balotelli appears to have few alternatives to remaining at Allianz Riviera, despite the player’s agent talking up a possible move to Borussia Dortmund earlier in the month.
Balotelli, who turns 27 in August, rediscovered his best form with Nice last season after signing on a free transfer from Liverpool.
The Italian international scored 15 league goals for Nice, a career-high, and 17 in all competitions.
Balotelli continued to build on his aggressive reputation by collecting three red cards last season, bringing him to a total of 10 in his career.
Interestingly, Balotelli could potentially meet his former employers, Liverpool, in the early stages of the 2017/18 season.
OGN Nice and Liverpool both need to qualify for the Champions League via a two-legged playoff round, and with The Reds seeded for the draw and Nice unseeded, they could meet as early as August 15 in what would be a high-stakes match so early in the campaign.
