Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the transfer of 19-year-old full-back Theo Hernandez.
Real Madrid will pay €30 million for the French-born teenager, more than Hernandez’s €24 million release clause, which is in an attempt to reduce tension between the two clubs.
The transfer will mark the first direct deal between the rival clubs in 17 years, when Santiago Solari swapped the then-relegated Atletico Madrid for Real Madrid in 2000.
Hernandez is an Atletico Madrid youth product, joining the club at 10 years old and working his way through the ranks to represent Atletico Madrid B in 2015.
He signed an extension with Atletico until 2021 last summer, leading to the loan spell where he would make his professional debut.
Hernandez spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan at Deportivo Alaves, becoming an integral part of the squad in his 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
The player will be unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first week of July.
