Sanchez, 28, is in the final year of his Arsenal contract and has thus far refused to sign an extension.

Arsene Wenger recently spoke to French media outlet SFR Sport, making some interesting comments regarding the future of Alexis Sanchez: “He’s an Arsenal player in the short term. Now, will we manage to extend his contract? We didn’t manage to do that last season, so I’m not super optimistic in that regard, but we have the firm intention of not selling him.”

The Chile international remains a viable transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain, who have used this transfer window to remind the footballing world of the financial power they have at their disposal, signing Brazilian superstar Neymar from Barcelona in a record-shattering transfer.

A move to Manchester City remains an alternative route, though The Gunners are extremely hesitant to sell to a domestic rival.

Arsenal commence their 2017/18 Premier League campaign with a visit from Leicester City, but Alexis Sanchez will watch from the sidelines after sustaining an abdominal injury.
