AC Milan have officially announced the sacking of Vincenzo Montella as manager, choosing club legend Gennaro Gattuso as his replacement.
Montella leaves the Rossoneri in 7th spot after struggling to build any kind of consistency, playing out a 0-0 draw at home to Torino before being relieved of his duties.
He joined the club in June 2016, guiding Milan to a UEFA Europa League qualifying spot after clinching 6th-place in Serie A last season.
However, expectations changed after AC Milan splashed over €200 million on new signings in the summer transfer market.
Gennaro Gattuso, a former Serie A and UEFA Champions League winner with AC Milan, will try to steady the ship in his absence.
The 39-year-old was managing AC Milan’s under-19 side and has experience as a senior manager in spells with Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete and Pisa.
His first challenge as AC Milan manager will arrive in the form of winless Benevento in Serie A on the weekend.
