What a game to start the Euro 2016! The hosts France faced Romania in what turned to be an amazingly close match, but in the end Didier Deschamps men were able to get the important three points.
The match started with a little bit of pressure by Romania, who almost scored a goal from a corner in the 4th minute! Nevertheless, France began to take the initiative afterwards, as they created a couple of chances in front of goal, but unfortunately couldn’t materialize them. As a result, the first-half finished goalless.
The second-half though proved to be a lot more entertaining. Olivier Giroud opened the scoreline in the 57th minute, making the home crowd go wild. However, just eight minutes later, France conceded a penalty, which was calmly converted by Bogdan Stancu.
As time went on, getting the win was looking more and more impossible for France, but in the 89th minute Dimitri Payet gave his team the 2-1 lead and victory with an absolute screamer outside the box. It’s no surprise that Twitter went wild and that is why we’re showing you some of the best posts:

The Payet story is great really, isn't it? Shows you don't have to be 22, 23 to kick on to the next level, on the highest stage.— Kristian Walsh (@Kristian_Walsh) June 10, 2016
