Dejan Lovren had a pretty decent 2015-16 season with Liverpool and everyone expected for him to go to Euro 2016 with the Croatian national squad. However, a bit surprisingly, the Reds defender was not among the players chosen to compete in the tournament.
It seemed that there was no particular football reason for Lovren’s exclusion from the team, as the defender actually improved a lot throughout the campaign, becoming a solid starter for Jurgen Klopp. Nevertheless, according the former Croatian head-coach, Slaven Bilic, a problem between Dejan and current manager Ante Cacic had occurred during a match.
Bilic stated that Lovren was sent to warm-up during the game, but afterwards thought that it was complete and sat on the bench – something that Cacic took as bad attitude. You can hear that after the six minute mark in the video below:
