Manchester United will be playing against Feyenoord in their Europa League opener on Thursday, but they will do that without their captain Wayne Rooney. The Red Devils star has been left out of the match group by Jose Mourinho, which is more or less a bit surprising.
However, the Portuguese specialist offered an explanation why he decided to not use Rooney against Feyenoord. Mourinho explained that the striker has been playing 90 minutes in each game since the beginning of the season, both for United and the England national squad.
Mourinho continued by saying that he prefers Rooney to be fresh for the next games, rather than use him on Thursday. Whether or not that will be a good decision, we will see pretty soon.
