1st – Edinson Cavani      cavani-psg-400x300

Appearances – 6 (1 off the bench)

Minutes – 508

Goals – 8

Assists – 0

Shots per game – 3.9

Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani leads the charts as Europe’s top marksmen with eight goals in the French Ligue 1, despite often missing a number of guilt-edged chances. He has made six starts and come off the bench once to amass 508 minutes of game time, considerably less than some of the other names to appear on the top marksmen list. PSG have made a stuttering start to their league campaign, but this has not affected Cavani as the Uruguayan is the continent’s top scorer without having to take an extraordinary amount of shots, with 3.9 average shots per game, putting him 14th in that regard. Edin Dzeko has a five goals in five games record, but sits atop of Europe for the most shots taken per game, at 5.7.

Joint 2nd – Alexandre Lacazette alexandre-lacazette

Appearances – 4

Minutes – 312

Goals – 6

Assists – 0

Shots per game – 3.5

The English Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 are all represented as we look at the players placed just below Cavani on a tally of six league goals. We start with Alexandre Lacazette, Lyon’s top scorer who ranks as the most efficient striker in Ligue 1. He has played the least amount of games, just four appearances for 312 minutes of playing time, when compared with other players who have reached the same goal tally. He also averages a slightly better average shots per game figure than Cavani, at 3.5.

Joint 2nd – Antione Griezmannhi-res-2d30587f0309ca845893d40b1fa754d4_crop_north

Appearances – 6

Minutes – 509

Goals – 6

Assists – 1

Shots per game – 3.3

Another Frenchman appears on the chart, as Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is the current La Liga top scorer with six strikes in six games. He has played 509 minutes, which is more than Lacazette, but has an assist to his name which neither his compatriot or Cavani have. He also holds the lowest shots per game ratio of the three, at 3.3.

Joint 2nd – Carlos Bacca hi-res-1c490700bb02c07a1b5e7e524d8f0a4c_crop_north

Appearances – 6 (1 off the bench)

Minutes – 541

Goals – 6

Assists – 0

Shots per game – 2.1

Next is Carlos Bacca, the Colombian forward who plays for AC Milan and is Serie A’s top scorer. He has played more minutes than the other three, at 541, but is one of the most lethal strikers in the world right now when we consider his average shots per game. He averages a measly 2.1 shots per game, ranking him 142nd, which means out of the strikers listed here he has scored the most goals with the least amount of shots taken.

Joint 2nd – Diego Costa vosta

Appearances – 7

Minutes – 620

Goals – 6

Assists – 2

Shots per game – 3.1

The Premier League’s top scorer is next, Diego Costa, who has made seven appearances and played 620 minutes; more playing time than the top scorer in Italy, Spain and France. That doesn’t necessarily mean more shots, though, as he averages less shots per game than the top scorers of those three leagues. He also has two assists to his name, equal most with any other striker in this list.

Joint 2nd – Gonzalo Higuaín aaf22f04e37af4cd95a6088972fbe2b2_xl

Appearances – 4 (3 off the bench)

Minutes – 396

Goals – 6

Assists – 0

Shots per game – 3.1

Gonzalo Higuaín made headlines around the world with a controversial transfer away from Napoli to join Juventus, but that has done nothing to stop his goal scoring frenzy. He has only played 396 minutes, yet he has scored six league goals with a solid shots per game average of 3.1, despite constant attention being pointed towards his lack of fitness.

Joint 2nd – Mauro Icardi mauroicardis1ottrz7_jfm

Appearances – 7

Minutes – 630

Goals – 6

Assists – 2

Shots per game – 3.7

Compatriot Mauro Icardi is next with the same goal tally, but has done so with the most number of minutes to appear in the list so far, at 630. He has also a higher shots per game average than Higuaín, Costa, Bacca, Griezmann and Lacazette, at 3.7. He joins Diego Costa with the most assists provided by the top scorers, with two.

Joint 2nd – Mevlut Erdinc mevluterdinc_metz_110916

Appearances – 8

Minutes – 666

Goals – 6

Assists – 0

Shots per game – 3

Mevlut Erdinc from FC Metz completes the list with the most number of minutes played to reach six goals, at 666. He has also made the most appearances, with eight, though he holds the second best average for shots taken at three per game. His ability to hold his nerve from the penalty spot has helped his cause, as he has converted three penalties from four attempts, more than any of the other mentioned players.
