Manchester United are prepared to go all out to land the signature of Cristiano Ronaldo amid rumours of disgruntlement at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo caused a media frenzy when he claimed his decision to leave Real Madrid was ‘irreversible’ after he was left underwhelmed by the club’s defence of him for tax fraud allegations.
The 32-year-old is facing four counts of tax fraud from 2011-2014 totalling €14.7 million.
While suspicion will arise due to the nature of the situation and reputation of super-agent Jorge Mendes, Manchester United will nonetheless pounce on even a glimmer of opportunity to see the four-time Ballon d’Or winner return to Old Trafford.
“If he leaves, I don’t see him in a place like China or the Middle East,” said former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon, who signed Ronaldo to the club in 2009.
“He will always be playing for a big club and trying to get more titles and personal awards.”
Ronaldo’s contract includes an untouchable release clause of €1 billion, which was inserted in his initial Real Madrid deal, but reports suggest that the back-to-back European Champions would accept bids in the range of €150 to €200 million.
This is where Manchester United come into the picture; The Red Devils are believed to be preparing €175 million + David de Gea to land the Real Madrid man.
The excessively lucrative deal won’t hinder any potential arrangement with Ronaldo’s teammate, Alvaro Morata, who is another priority signing for the club.
Regardless of what you make of that deal, the summer transfer window will not go without its dramatic and entertaining moments.
