Alexandre Lacazette completes £46 million move to Arsenal

Alexandre Lacazette is Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after completing a £46 million move from Olympique Lyonnais.

The Frenchman underwent a medical at London Colney training ground on Tuesday and penned a five-year contract that makes him the most expensive signing in Arsenal’s history.

Alexandre Lacazette has played his entire professional career for Olympique Lyonnais, where he scored 129 goals in 275 appearances. He joins Arsenal as he approaches his peak years, having scored 91 of those goals in his last 129 appearances for Lyon

Alexandre Lacazette was close to becoming an Atletico Madrid player, having agreed a deal with the Spanish club before their transfer ban came into play, but will now link up with his new teammates in Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Australia and China.

With bonuses worth £6 million, the transfer could eventually amount to £52 million, which smashes the transfer record set by Mesut Ozil’s signing from Real Madrid by almost £10 million.

Arsenal will feel the fee was necessary to convince Lyon of letting go of a player who has hit at least 20 league goals in each of his last three seasons.

Arsene Wenger needed to ensure Arsenal fans of the signing of a prolific goal-scorer amidst the uncertainty surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s future, while Mesut Ozil is another key player whose plans remain unclear.
