Wayne Rooney on the verge of Everton return

Wayne Rooney is set to re-join his boyhood club after being withdrawn from Manchester United’s pre-season tour in the United States.

The 31-year-old is expected to sign a two-year deal worth approximately £250,000 per week with Everton after 13 seasons at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney departed Everton as a teenager in 2004. His performances for The Toffees and England at EURO 2004 convinced Sir Alex Ferguson to splash £30 million for his services, a fee which was the highest-ever spent on a teenager at the time

In those 13 seasons, Wayne Rooney has become Manchester United’s all-time greatest goal-scorer, hitting 253 strikes in 559 appearances.

A fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford saw Rooney reduced to a rotation role last season, where he managed his lowest-ever return of goals for the club, with just eight from 39 appearances.

Everton have moved swiftly in the transfer market over the summer, acquiring six players for a cumulative fee in excess of £90 million pounds.

The Toffees will take on a vastly different look in the new campaign and the potential signing of Wayne Rooney could have a huge impact on their chances of breaking into the top-four for the first time since 2005.
