AS Roma are edging closer to a deal for Schalke defender Matija Nastasic, who would fill the void left by Antonio Rudiger’s departure to Chelsea.
Schalke are starting with demands of roughly €20 million in hope of doubling the €9.5 million they paid to Manchester City in 2015, but Roma director of football Monchi is hoping to negotiate the price down.
The Serbian is a player of vast experience despite being just 24-years-old, having played in the Premier League, Serie A and Bundesliga, and won the Premier League in 2014 with Manchester City.
Nastasic has battled back from significant injuries to established himself as key player for Schalke, most notably when he suffered an Achilles injury just 17 minutes into the 2015/16 season – an injury that would limit him to just two appearances for the whole campaign.
Nastasic had a much more productive season in 2016/17, making 35 appearances in all competitions and helping Schalke in their run to the Quarter-Finals of the UEFA Europa League.
