Tiemoue Bakayoko has finally completed his long-awaited transfer to Chelsea, as confirmed through the club’s official website.
The Ligue 1 winner with Monaco last season arrives at Stamford Bridge in a potential £40 million deal that will tie him to the club for the next five years.
Tiemoue Bakayoko is Chelsea’s third acquisition of the summer after the purchase of Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and the free transfer of former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
“I have grown up watching Chelsea. Signing for them was the natural thing for me because it is a club I loved very much in my childhood,” said Bakayoko.
The Frenchman seems an ideal central midfield partner for N’Golo Kante, who would together form arguably the most industrious and energetic central midfielder partnership in the Premier League.
Though just 22 years of age, Bakayoko played an integral part in Monaco’s Ligue 1 title triumph last season, making 32 appearances, scoring twice and assisting once, and was ever-present in their run to the Champions League Semi-Finals.
His addition to Stamford Bridge will likely be followed with the exit of Nemanja Matic, who looks set to re-unite with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
