Liverpool add Hull’s Andrew Robertson as third summer signing

Scottish full-back Andrew Robertson has traded Hull City and the Championship for Liverpool and Premier League football in a £10 million transfer, reports The Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old comes in as competition for Liverpool’s makeshift left-back from last season, James Milner, while the future of Alberto Moreno is seemingly pushed further away from Anfield.

Left-back has been something of a problem position for Liverpool since John Arne Riise departed for Roma in 2008; the likes of Fabio Aurelio, Andrea Dossena, Paul Konchesky, Emiliano Insua, Jose Enrique, Aly Cissokho, Jon Flanagan and Alberto Moreno have all failed to make the position their own, be it through injury problems or lack of form, while James Milner’s deployment in the position seems more of a short-term fix than long-term plan

Andrew Robertson has 15 caps for Scotland and drew the attention of Liverpool during his 33 Premier League appearances for Hull City last season, and has been rumoured to be joining the club since June.

While Robertson clearly impressed Jurgen Klopp, he was unable to help Hull City from being relegated to the Championship just one year after earning promotion.

The Scotsman is Liverpool’s third signing of the summer after English striker Dominic Solanke arrived from Chelsea and Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah came in from Roma.
