Manchester City sign Real Madrid full-back Danilo

Manchester City have announced the signing of Brazilian full-back Danilo via their official website.

The reported £26.9 million transfer for the 26-year-old commits him to the club for the next five years.

“There was interest from other clubs, but it has always been my ambition to play for Pep Guardiola,” said Danilo.

Despite a deputy role at Real Madrid, Danilo played a part in their success over the past two years. He has two Champions League titles on his resume (coming off the bench in the Final vs. Atletico Madrid in 2015/16), played 17 times in Real Madrid’s first La Liga title win in five years, and also has a FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup to his name

Danilo is City’s fourth acquisition of the summer following Bernardo Silva, Ederson Moraes and Kyle Walker, and takes their total spend this window to nearly £150 million.

The former Porto man’s versatility was likely to be one of the features of his game that attracted Pep Guardiola; the Brazilian can play at right-back, left-back and defensive midfield.

“I don’t have a favourite position. I am used to playing as a right-back, but any time I’m on the pitch in the starting XI, I’m always happy,” explained Danilo.

Danilo is a work permit away from being eligible to play for his new club, meaning it is unlikely he will debut for Manchester City in their upcoming friendly against his former side, Real Madrid.
