Arsenal set to offer £50 million for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar

Arsenal are prepared to offer £50 million for versatile Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, reports The Telegraph.

Arsene Wenger is clearly not giving up the chase for the 21-year-old, who has been subject to two rejected bids in the region of £30-35 million by the French champions.

Thomas Lemar enjoyed a tremendous 2016/17 season at Monaco on both a personal and team level; he played a vital role in their Ligue 1 title success, scoring nine goals and assisting 10 (the most in Ligue 1) in 34 appearances, and added a further five goals and seven assists in all competitions, most of which came in their run to the Champions League Semi-Finals

Arsene Wenger seems to be intent on keeping up with the lavish sums outlayed by Premier League rivals, as this report comes only weeks after the club broke their transfer record to sign Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Thomas Lemar would perhaps best suit a role out on the left flank at Arsenal, which is usually a position taken up by Alexis Sanchez.

However, given the Chilean’s discontent at Arsenal and heavy links to moves elsewhere, Lemar’s arrival could fill part of the void left by Alexis Sanchez’s absence.

Monaco have most notably sold Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City and Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea, while first-team regular Valere Germain departed for Olympique de Marseille.
