Barcelona have reached out to Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria over a possible summer swap deal, reports Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
The proposed transfer, which would easily be the most shocking and unexpected move this window, follows the seemingly inevitable feeling that Barcelona have lost Neymar to PSG and must arrange replacements as quickly as possible.
Barca hope to use Di Maria as a bargaining tool in a cash + player swap before letting Neymar go, akin to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s transfer from Inter Milan to Barcelona in 2009.
It remains to be seen how the Blaugrana faithful would react to seeing a former Real Madrid player join the side, but the Argentine would be welcomed by a familiar face: international teammate Lionel Messi.
While a Messi-Suarez-Di Maria combination has its appeal, it demands nowhere near the attention or intimidation of Barca’s ‘MSN’ trio, meaning Barcelona would almost certainly add several other signings to compensate for the loss of one of the best players in world football.
