Arsene Wenger confirms the exit of Lucas Perez

Spanish striker Lucas Perez is set for an Arsenal exit after just one season of sporadic appearances at the club.

Arsene Wenger confirmed that the former PAOK and Deportivo La Coruna striker may have to look for alternatives next season due to the abundance of forwards in the squad.

“I don’t like to lose him (Lucas Perez) because, for me, he’s a top-quality striker – but we have many strikers,” said Wenger.

The 28-year-old made 21 appearances for The Gunners last season, with only nine coming for the starting line-up, and leaves the club with a credible return of seven goals from such limited playing time. His highlights include a hattrick against Basel in the Champions League and a perfectly timed volley in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League.

“At some stage, too much competition is not competition anymore. You cannot give a chance to everybody, so if he finds a satisfying solution, at least for a short time, he will do it.”

A host of clubs across the continent are lurking for Perez’s signature, notably Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle and former club Deportivo La Coruna, while Turkish reports are suggesting that Fenerbache have already agreed personal terms for a transfer.
