Stoke City sign former Real Madrid and PSG winger Jese Rodriguez

Jese Rodriguez has signed for Stoke City on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain, per the club’s official website.

The 24-year-old is the sixth summer acquisition for Mark Hughes’ side following the signings of Darren Fletcher, Kurt Zouma, Maxim Choupa-Moting, Bruno Martins Indi and Josh Tymon.

Jese Rodriguez won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in 2014 and 2016, and also has a La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Club World Cup to his name. His arrival at Stoke completes an interesting and odd statistic – Stoke City have more Champions League winners in their squad than any other team in the Premier League (the players being Jese Rodriguez, Bojan, Xherdan Shaqiri, Ibrahim Afellay and Darren Fletcher).

Jese Rodriguez is a Real Madrid youth product, joining the club as a 14-year-old, and rose through the ranks to debut for the senior side in December 2011. He made 94 appearances for the club, scoring 18 times before a lack of playing time and significant injuries lead to a €25 million move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spaniard struggled to settle in Paris, starting only one of his nine appearances last season as Unai Emery suggested a move elsewhere was needed for him to rediscover his form. Jese was subsequently loaned to Las Palmas, his hometown side, where he spent the second half of 2016/17.

Jese is set to debut on Saturday when Stoke welcome Arsenal to the bet365 stadium.
