Gabriel Paulista set for Arsenal exit

Brazilian centre-half Gabriel Paulista is in Spain to finalise his move to Valencia, reports Spanish outlet Superdeporte.

The 26-year-old will sign a five-year deal with Valencia just two years after joining The Gunners, and is expected to be officially announced as a Valencia player prior to their league opener against Las Palmas on Friday night.

The transfer to Valencia will mark Gabriel’s second spell in Spain and the second time he has worked under Marcelino. He made 37 La Liga appearances for Villarreal before signing with Arsenal in the winter transfer window of 2014/15. Despite winning two FA Cups with The Gunners, Gabriel was never viewed as first-choice, and started only 15 times in the Premier League last season.

“I am really happy, I have spoken to Marcelino (Valencia manager) a number of times and I understand how he works,” Gabriel was quoted as saying by Marca.

Gabriel fell out of favour at Arsenal following the signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding, both of whom will play key roles this season.

Gabriel could be one of several Arsenal players to exit the club in the coming weeks as Arsene Wenger seeks to trim down a rather bloated looking squad.

Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Lucas Perez and Jack Wilshere are four others who could move on before the transfer window closes on August 31st.
