Barcelona agree €40 million fee with Nice for Jean Michael Seri

Ivory Coast and OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri is on the verge of becoming the second post-Neymar signing for Barcelona.

That’s the news coming from French outlet L’Equipe, who report that the two clubs have agreed a €40 million fee for the 26-year-old.

Jean Michael Seri was instrumental to Nice’s top-four finish in Ligue 1 last season, adding seven goals and nine assists to help earn his side a Champions League qualification spot.

Jean Michael Seri began his professional football career with ASEC Mimosas, an Ivorian football club based in one of the most populous French-speaking cities in Africa. He departed in 2012, moving to Europe for the first time with FC Porto’s reserve team. A subsequent move to Pacos de Ferreira gave him his first taste of senior football in Europe before he joined OGC Nice.

The Ivorian caught the eye of not only several Premier League clubs, such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham, but of Barcelona legend Xavi, who believes Seri has all the tools to succeed at Barcelona.

“When I was told that a Nice player was nicknamed the ‘African Xavi’, I followed him very closely,” said the four-time Champions League winner.

“Short passing, long passing, tactical intelligence, distance shooting, personality, organising play, that last magic pass…’madre mia!”

“He can play anywhere in the middle. Seri is fantastic. I can say, without hesitation, that he has what we call Barca ‘DNA’.”
