Liverpool prepare for a Champions League night at Anfield packed with as much significance as ever – win against Hoffenheim and they’re through to the Champions League Group Stages, but lose and it’s the consolation prize of a Group Stage spot in the Europa League.
Jurgen Klopp rotated his squad in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace – a wise decision considering it was The Reds’ third game within a week – and ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a close-range finish from Sadio Mane.
Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan, Andrew Robertson, James Milner and Daniel Sturridge were given starting berths against Palace, allowing the likes of Dejan Lovren, Emre Can and Mohamed Salah to remain fresh for the all-important second-leg.
There’s still no place for Philippe Coutinho in the matchday squad, apparently out with ‘illness’ as Jurgen Klopp faces the challenge of reintegrating him to the club following his transfer request to Barcelona.
Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne remain on the omission list, while Danny Ings is nearing a return to the senior team after turning out for the under-23 squad on the weekend.
