Sky Sport Italia are reporting that Juventus are close to sealing a deal for FC Schalke 04 and Germany defender Benedikt Howedes.
Juventus director Beppe Marotta commented publicly on the situation, saying the German’s arrival at the club was ‘more than just a hypothesis’.
“We won’t deny that we had contacts; Howedes represents an interesting profile, but we still have to work out contractual issues with him and with Schalke 04. He is an option, perhaps more than just a hypothesis,” Marotta said.
The proposal includes a €2-3 million fee for a season-long loan with the option to buy for an additional €7-8 million at the end of the campaign.
Benedikt Howedes’ versatility would be an invaluable asset for Massimiliano Allegri; he is predominantly a central defender but is more than capable of playing on the left or right side of defence.
Juventus kicked off their domestic season with a 3-0 victory over Cagliari, and drew Barcelona, Olympiakos and Sporting CP in their Champions League group.
