Philippe Coutinho fit to play for Brazil days after ‘back injury’

Tite has named a strong Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia despite having already achieved qualification to the 2018 Finals in Russia.

Included in the 23-man squad is Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who has been declared fit to play just days after missing the Premier League clash with Arsenal due to a back injury.

Brazil doctor Michael Simoni confirmed the injury was caused by stress from his transfer saga with Barcelona.

“Coutinho back problem? He is okay now. The back problem was a matter of stress, it was something emotional,” said Simoni.

Neymar has 52 goals from 77 caps with Brazil, which makes him the highest scoring player amongst active squad members. He is also the only active play in Brazil’s squad to feature in the top-10 all-time scorers, and trails only Romario (55), Ronaldo (62) and Pele (77).

The likes of Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, Roberto Firmino and Taison complete the strike force for Tite’s Brazil, while Casemiro and newly signed Barcelona midfielder Paulinho will fuel the engine room in midfield.
