Robin van Persie back in Holland squad

Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie is back in Holland’s national team set-up for the first time since October 2015.

Dick Advocaat will hope the 34-year-old can roll back the years as Holland desperately seek to stay in World Cup contention when they meet with Group A leaders France on Thursday.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker is the all-time top-scorer for Holland, netting 50 times in 101 caps.

Fellow national team veteran Arjen Robben made the cut, while in-form Sporting CP striker Bas Dost will hope to carry over his prolific club form onto the international scene.

Crystal Palace loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been handed a late call-up to the squad following doubts over the fitness of Olympique Lyonnais defender Kenny Tete, who is struggling with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, there is no place for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, who continues to seek a move away from the club in what has been the summer’s most drawn out saga.
