Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has taken out August’s English Premier League Player of the Month award after a blistering start to the new campaign.
The Senegalese international scored in all three of Liverpool’s opening league fixtures against Watford, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
He fended off competition for the award from Manchester United’s Phil Jones, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, Huddersfield Town’s Jonas Lossl and teammate Mohamed Salah – who was named Liverpool’s Player of the Month.
“I want to say thanks to all of my teammates because without them I am nothing,” said Sadio Mane after being presented with the award at Melwood on Friday.
“I am happy with my start to the season. Everyone loves to score goals for their team, and it gives me more confidence.”
Meanwhile, Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner was named Manager of the Month after guiding his side to an unbeaten start in the league, while Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels secured the Goal of the Month award after an outrageous volleyed effort against Manchester City.
