Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele will miss up to four months of action after injuring his hamstring.
The Frenchman was forced off after just 29 minutes of his full league debut for Barcelona, who went on to secure a 2-1 victory over Getafe thanks to Paulinho’s late effort.
Barcelona released a statement on their official website, saying, “Unfortunately, he has ruptured the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh. The player will be operated on by Dr. Sakari Orava in Finland this week.”
The club went on to claim the former Borussia Dortmund player will miss the next three to four months of football.
That will keep the French international out of the remainder of Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League group stage fixtures, while it is highly unlikely he will be fit in time for El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu in December.
Ousmane Dembele will also miss out on France’s final attempts to qualify for the FIFA World Cup away to Bulgaria and home to Belarus next month.
