FIFA have selected Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar as the final three to compete for the FIFA Player of the Year Award.
Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo, the heavy favourite to take out the award, propelled Real Madrid to a second successive UEFA Champions League crown after netting 10 of his 12 goals in the competition in the knockout rounds.
The former Manchester United man also notched 25 goals in La Liga as Real Madrid secured their first league title since 2012.
Argentine maestro Lionel Messi enjoyed a highly prolific campaign last term, finishing as La Liga’s top-scorer and netting 54 times from 52 appearances in all competitions, but only had a Copa del Rey winners medal to show for his efforts.
Lionel Messi’s former teammate Neymar wasn’t at his high-flying best last season, making his inclusion somewhat of a surprise, but he did still score 20 times in 45 appearances before becoming the world’s most expensive player by moving from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million.
The winners will be announced on October 23 at the London Palladium.
