Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gaining attention from European heavyweights

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has progressed exponentially since joining from KRC Genk in 2015.

The 22-year-old, who was born into a sporting family with a father that played professional football and a mother that played professional basketball, is being eyed by some of Europe’s elite.

Though Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has earned two call-ups to the Serbian national team, he is yet to make his debut for the senior side. He is already an established international at under-19, 20 and 21 level, winning the 2013 UEFA Under-19 Championship and making the Semi-Final the following year, as well as playing a key role in Serbia’s Under-20 World Cup triumph in 2015, where he won the Bronze Ball.

Various reports from and The Sunday Express have cited Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich as potential suitors for the physically imposing Serbian.

However, given the current form of the Spain-born Lazio man, a bid of as much as €85 million (£75 million) could be necessary to take the player away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic played 38 times for Lazio last season, scoring seven times and assisting five as I Biancocelesti secured a European place and made the Coppa Italia final.

He has continued that form into the new campaign, producing an industrious and commanding display in the recent 4-1 victory over AC Milan, and has already opened his goalscoring account with a late winner at Chievo last month.
