Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked from Bayern Munich following a 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
The Italian manager had only been with the Bavarians for one full season, where he guided them to a Bundesliga title, but went no further than the Semi-Finals of the German Cup and Quarter-Finals of the UEFA Champions League.
“The performance of our team since the start of the season did not meet the expectations we put to them,” said Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
“I would like to thank Carlo for his cooperation. Carlo is my friend and will remain my friend, but we had to make a professional decision. The game in Paris clearly showed that we had to draw consequences.”
Assistant manager Willy Sagnol will take care of managerial duties on a temporary basis. He takes over a Bayern Munich side sitting in 3rd spot in the Bundesliga, three points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
