Anthony Martial’s blistering start to the season with Manchester United doesn’t appear to have left much of an impression on France boss Didier Deschamps.
The 22-year-old was left out of France’s squad for World Cup qualification matches against Bulgaria and Belarus, which will be their last two competitive matches before next year’s tournament in Russia provided they secure top spot.
France will all but clinch top spot with a victory away at Bulgaria next weekend, while a further triumph at home to bottom side Belarus will guarantee them a direct route to Russia in 2018.
Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Marseille’s Dimitri Payet are Didier Deschamps’ preferred options in the wide areas, leaving Anthony Martial to continue training in Manchester during next week’s international break.
Despite starting just four games and accumulating 353 minutes of playing time in all competitions, Anthony Martial has scored five times and assisted three as Manchester United continue the unbeaten streak that started after losing 2-1 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.
