Atletico Madrid are in the process of finalising a move for Argentina under-20 striker Lautaro Martinez from Racing Club.
Buenos Aires based newspaper Ole claim that Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta has travelled to Argentina to wrap up the deal.
The 20-year-old will be subject to a move to the Spanish capital for €12 million, €2 million more than his release clause, a fee which Racing Club president Victor Blanco doesn’t believe reflects the qualities of the player.
“If it were up to me I would increase his release clause to €40 million because he is worth that,” said Victor Blanco.
Lautaro Martinez netted nine times from 23 appearances in the league last season, ranking as Racing Club’s second top-scorer in domestic competition and helping them qualify for the 2018 Copa Libertadores.
His desire to play in South America’s premier club tournament means he will remain at Racing Club for the remainder of the campaign, according to ESPN.
