Zinedine Zidane is interested in adding Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to his Real Madrid squad next summer, according to Spanish outlet MARCA.
Although this is only the 23-year-old’s second season in the top flight of Spanish football, he has already established himself as Athletic Bilbao’s number one goalkeeper, keeping eight clean sheets from 23 La Liga appearances last season.
With his current deal expiring at the end of the campaign, Real Madrid fancy their chances of acquiring him on a free transfer.
Athletic Bilbao have attempted to avoid losing the Spaniard on a free by extending his current deal, but he has refused to sign a proposal which included a €75 million release clause.
The UEFA Champions League holders feel that the Bilbao man could be a long-term solution to the goalkeeping position, which has mostly been held down by Costa Rica international Keylor Navas since the departure of Iker Casillas.
Manchester United fans will hope the news materialises into action, as Real Madrid would surely put an end to their drawn out pursuit of David de Gea if they were to sign Kepa next summer.
