Kylian Mbappe takes out Golden Boy award

Paris Saint-Germain prodigy Kylian Mbappe has been named the 2017 Golden Boy award winner after a stunning breakthrough season in 2016/17.

The 18-year-old has four goals and four assists in 11 appearances with the Parisians, where he is currently on loan, and will join the club on a permanent basis for €180 million next season.

Kylian Mbappe has ascended rapidly since debuting for AS Monaco in 2015; the youngster has already played eight times for France, scoring his first goal in a World Cup qualifier against Holland, and has eight goals from 12 appearances in the UEFA Champions League for AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain – the most from any teenager in the history of the competition.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport announced the result on Monday, with Kylian Mbappe taking out the award by a considerable margin over the likes of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

He is the third Frenchman to win the award following its inception in 2003, following in the footsteps of Paul Pogba, who won it for his performances with Juventus in 2013, and Anthony Martial, for his combined efforts with both AS Monaco and Manchester United in 2015.
