Dani Carvajal on the road to recovery following heart infection

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that Spanish right-back Dani Carvajal has overcome a heart infection.

Dani Carvajal is a Real Madrid youth product, having joined the club as a 10-year-old. He worked his way through the Real Madrid B team, playing 68 games before signing a five-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen. Real Madrid wisely included a buy-back clause in the deal and, after Carvajal was voted as one of the best three right-backs in the league, was once again a Real Madrid player in a €6.5 million move. He has gone on to make 169 appearances for the first team, winning La Liga, three UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cup titles and two FIFA Club World Cup titles, as well as a Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.

“Dani (Carvajal) is okay and the tests are positive,” said Zidane.

“He has been cycling today, he is healthy but there is a recovery process and we will have to see how that goes.”

Dani Carvajal last turned out for the back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners in September, completing 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.

The club soon revealed that he had been diagnosed with a viral pericardium infection and would miss six weeks of action.

Real Madrid have since gotten their La Liga campaign back on course, winning their last four matches to sit in third spot, five points behind pacesetters Barcelona.
