Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career could be over

Luke Shaw could be on borrowed time at Manchester United amidst belief that his relationship with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has deteriorated.

According to The Guardian, Luke Shaw has grown frustrated over his lack of playing time and believes he will not be given the chance to prove himself as he continues to fall down the pecking order.

Jose Mourinho has used a host of players in the left-back slot this season, including Matteo Darmian, Daily Blind and Ashley Young, while Luke Shaw is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League or UEFA Champions League.

Luke Shaw has been hugely unfortunate in his time at Manchester United, suffering a double leg fracture in the opening game of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League campaign – an injury that kept him out of action for seven months. He has struggled to re-establish the form that led to him being shortlisted for the 2014 Golden Boy award, starting just nine times in the Premier League last season and none thus far this campaign.

The 22-year-old has struggled with injuries ever since making the switch from Southampton in 2014, making just 32 appearances in the Premier League in over three years.

Injuries continue to be ever-present in Luke Shaw’s career, having recovered from an ankle injury two months ago, but his Portuguese boss hasn’t offered him more than scattered minutes in the League Cup since his recovery.

On the brink of the FIFA World Cup next year, Luke Shaw could seek greener pastures to secure first-team football, especially considering England manager Gareth Southgate’s stance that players must be playing regularly for their clubs to make the final squad for Russia.
