Much-maligned Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed his family received death threats via social media platform Instagram following a poor outing against Tottenham last week.
The Croatian opened up on the situation through his Instagram story, sharing a screenshot of a private message where the sender threatened to ‘murder’ his family.
“I don’t mind when people talk about me, it says more about them,” read the first line of Dejan Lovren’s Instagram story.
“But I cannot ignore when my family is threatened. I just can’t and won’t accept that. Disgusting.”
Dejan Lovren, who has been at Liverpool since 2014, produced arguably his worst display for the club in their 4-1 hammering from Tottenham.
He was oblivious to the threat in-behind Liverpool’s high defensive line for Tottenham’s opening goal, and followed that up with an embarrassing misjudgement of an aerial ball in the build-up to the second.
Dejan Lovren’s blushes were compounded when Jurgen Klopp substituted him just 31 minutes into the first half.
He was set to start in Liverpool’s clash with Huddersfield over the weekend but withdrew after sustaining a thigh injury in the warm-up, and will miss out on their UEFA Champions League clash with Maribor on Wednesday.
