Sweden squad for World Cup Playoff vs. Italy

Sweden have named their 25-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Playoff against Italy.

Al Ain FC striker Marcus Berg, who finished as their top-scorer in qualifying with eight goals from nine appearances, is included alongside RB Leipzig dangerman Emil Forsberg.

The experienced trio of Hull City midfielder Sebastian Larsson, Krasnodar defender Andreas Granqvist and Celtic defender Mikael Lustig all made the squad, though the latter is suspended for the first leg.

If Sweden can see off the stern challenge of Italy in the Playoffs, they will qualify for their first World Cup since 2006. Their last two qualifying campaigns have seen them narrowly miss out, finishing third in their group for the 2010 tournament and losing to Portugal in the Playoffs ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.

Brondby defender Johan Larsson is a surprise inclusion, having not featured for Sweden since a January 2015 friendly, while Ostersund midfielder Ken Sema is in line for his first competitive appearance.

Janne Anderson’s troops will host the first leg in Solna on November 10 before a return leg fixture at the San Siro on November 13.
