Fluminense’s Wendel set for Paris Saint-Germain move

Paris Saint-Germain are close to completing a deal for 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder Wendel from Fluminense.

Wendel, whose full name is Marcus Wendel Valle da Silva, was being weighed up as a target for Paris Saint-Germain throughout the summer, with ESPN reporting a verbal agreement between the two clubs back in August.

Edgard Maciel de Sa of Globoesporte covered the story, claiming that Fluminense lawyers have been in Paris over the past few days finalising the terms of the deal, which has been all-but-confirmed.

Wendel turned professional in February, debuting for Fluminense at 19. Despite his inexperience at senior level, he has attracted interest from some of Europe’s most reputable clubs, including Barcelona, but now looks primed to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Wendel’s €10 million move to the Parc de Princes will see him tied to the club for the next five years, joining the likes of compatriots Neymar, Lucas Moura, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva and Marquinhos.

He is one of Brazil’s most exciting prospects, having made 30 appearances in Fluminense’s league campaign, adding four goals and two assists to his name.
