Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been left out of Borussia Dortmund’s latest matchday squad for a Bundesliga meeting with Stuttgart.
Borussia Dortmund announced the decision via their Twitter account, saying, “Aubameyang has been removed from the squad for tomorrow’s match for disciplinary reasons.”
The 28-year-old is the second top scorer in the division with 10 goals in 11 appearances, one shy of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowksi.
However, he has not escaped scrutiny for suffering a minor dip in form that leaves him without a goal in five games, and has been partly blamed for Borussia Dortmund’s poor run of form in the Bundesliga – winless in their last four outings.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang flirted with the idea of a move abroad over the summer – China the reported destination – and many believe the Gabon international is unsettled in Germany.
Regardless, the former Saint-Etienne striker remains focused on the task at hand with Borussia Dortmund, addressing his recent goalscoring woes.
“It is expected of me that I score goals. That’s my job,” he said to German outlet Bild.
“I face up to criticism even though I don’t think everything’s fair. I know that I now need to score goals again. But there have been periods like this before.”
Borussia Dortmund have slipped to 3rd place in the Bundesliga, six points adrift of perennial pacesetters Bayern Munich, while RB Leipzig have pipped them to 2nd spot.
