Reports from Brussels-based newspaper HLN suggest that Chelsea are prepared to make Eden Hazard the Premier League’s best-paid player in order to fend off interest from Real Madrid.
Eden Hazard has been linked with the back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners on numerous occasions as they seek to reinforce their star-studded attack.
Chelsea are hoping to tie his long-term future to the club by extending his contract until 2023, handing the former Lille player an extraordinary pay-packet.
The 26-year-old was instrumental to Chelsea’s 4-0 rout of Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League, helping them to book a spot in the Round of 16 with one Group Stage game left.
“The moment to leave will be when I want to leave,” said the Belgian in an interview with French TV channel Canal+.
“Everybody knows the admiration that I have for Real Madrid. But for the moment, I am a Blue. Each year people say stuff about Eden, and each year I have always stayed at the club.”
Eden Hazard has been in fine form since returning from an ankle fracture early in the season, scoring six times in his last seven appearances for Chelsea.
