Emre Can agrees terms for Juventus transfer

Emre Can could be on his way out the door at Liverpool after agreeing to terms for a Juventus move, according to Tuttosport.

The Turin-based newspaper claims that the German has given the green light to join the defending Serie A champions either when his contract expires at the end of the season or during the January transfer window.

Liverpool failed to tie down the German international’s future during a drawn out process dating back to last season, apparently unwilling to offer a release clause in his new contract.

Emre Can hasn’t been able to nail down a regular spot in Liverpool’s starting line-up in the Premier League this season. He’s started eight of their 13 fixtures and added a further two appearances off the bench. Despite his irregular playing time and desire to leave the club, he’s refrained from kicking up a fuss and has remained patient and professional in search of a move.

The 23-year-old divides opinion at Anfield; on one hand, Liverpool know they have a talented midfielder with a well-rounded game, but he doesn’t seem to excel in any department in particular.

He’s not quite an attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder, but possesses sufficient enough qualities at both ends of the pitch for a case to be made either way.

What’s more concerning for Emre Can on a personal level is what a move to Juventus would do to actually benefit his career.

He’s been reduced to a substitute role at Anfield this season, so what’s to say he’ll earn a start over the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira or Claudio Marchisio at Juventus?

As for Liverpool, it’s interesting to see their move in the interim. We know they’ll be boosted by Naby Keita’s arrival in the summer, but will they search for an immediate replacement for Emre Can should he leave in the January transfer window?
