Romelu Lukaku could miss out on Manchester Derby as FA review Brighton incident

The FA are reviewing footage of Romelu Lukaku’s outburst against Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend.

Romelu Lukaku was spotted kicking out at Brighton defender Gaetan Bong in the build-up to Ashley Young’s decisive goal.

The incident went unnoticed by match officials but is now under review as the FA study referee Neil Swarbrick’s match report and view more footage.

He faces a charge of violent conduct, which would rule him out for three matches, including December’s Manchester Derby.

Manchester United fans might have to wait a little longer to see if a front pairing of Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will prove successful. The two are yet to start a game together since the Belgian’s arrival from Everton over the summer, but have played scattered minutes together in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s three substitute appearances in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United would also be without the Belgian international for games against Watford in mid-week and Arsenal on Saturday should he be found guilty.

Romelu Lukaku has endured a poor run of form as of late, scoring just once in his last 10 appearances for The Red Devils.

He has played every minute of Manchester United’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League campaign thus far.

Perhaps now would be the perfect time to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic back into the starting line-up after successive appearances off the bench following ACL surgery.
